Vilnius, Lithuania

Vilnius = Capital of Lithuania since 1992

Me, Ryan, and Bekah in front of the President's Palace

Our lunch location... in the "Shire" (unfortunately, we didn't eat at this table)

Castle at Trakai (original capital of Lithuania)

Favorite Memory: On our first official day in Lithuania, our class was introduced to Eugenia, a lawyer who was involved in the creation of Lithuania as an independent country. Prior to 1990, Lithuania was part of the Soviet Union. Eugenia talked about how the oppression was finally too much and something had to be done. She shared her experience of joining together with other influential leaders and making the decision with them. She also talked about the struggles of leaving the Soviet, becoming an independent country, and dealing with new regulations they hadn’t considered. Although all 42 of us were struggling against jet lag and a busy day of touring, her story was still intriguing and definitely not your typical lecture. How many times do you get to hear how a country became independent straight from someone who was involved in the process?!

To be continued…

Next stop: Klaipeda, Lithuania
