Did anyone else see how beautiful the sky was today? I'd say God's doing a pretty good job of reaching His goal.
Which reminds me of a funny thing that happened yesterday...
Yesterday evening as I was hurriedly walking to my business class (that, long-story short, I was already late for), I looked up from my hurried pace and was awestruck by the view. Blue sky... super clear and definitely more vibrant than usual. A few light clouds... softly smeared across the blue. The radiant sun... its light glimmering through the trees at just the perfect angle. The greenness of the trees... almost sparkling in the light. Even the red brick walls seemed to dazzle. I was stunned.
As I gazed at the view, trying to take it all in, I almost forgot to keep walking. But I couldn't just stand there and gaze at it. After all, I was late for class! But everything was so beautiful, I HAD to do something! My first instinct was to thank God... because this was way too beautiful to go unnoticed. So, like with any other thing I'd like to tell people immediately, I pulled out my phone so I could text Him my gratitude. But as I reached my hand into my book-bag to grab my phone, I realized... wrong form of communication! God doesn't have a phone number. Or a phone.
As cool as it would be to text God, I have an even more direct line to Him. I don't even have to pull out my cell phone to contact Him and, what's even better, I don't have to wait till He is available for Him to respond. I can talk with God immediately - no matter the day, the time, or the place and He's never too busy to hear.
It was a funny thought I had and I still can't believe I almost tried to text God... but I still can't hold it in; God has been great! I mean, the skies proclaimed the work of His hands yesterday. And today. And I'm gonna go ahead and guess He'll do it again tomorrow. And that gives me joy because a) it's beautiful and b) it reminds me of His instant communication with us. Instead of just sharing my joy with God, I realized I have to share with others that He has been great... because our joy is made complete when we are able to express it to others.* Experiencing something great is only half the joy; the other half comes in telling others about it. And that's why I blog today.
* "I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation. It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed." - C.S. Lewis (as quoted in John Piper's "Desiring God")

I love your relationship with God. Thanks for always reminding me how close he truly is!
Lizzie, what you have written about here reminds me of the summers I have had of being a camp counselor. At times I would be focused on getting a cabin of 8 kids to some activity on time, and one camper would find some insect, a spider web or some other interesting distraction. My first reaction to the distraction was usually to ignore it and tell the kid to hurry up. Then, i realized that getting to wherever I was going was not as important at taking a second to stand in awe of God's creation. Kids are sometimes good reminders of what really matters.
