After returning home from a few errands yesterday morning, my mom handed me a note that my little brother had written in regards to a phone message he had taken for me. I was really surprised for several reasons… a) Hudson doesn’t normally answer the phone, b) no brother of mine ever writes down phone messages; instead, they stick it to their memory (in which case they forget and the message is never delivered), and c) the message was not only written legibly, but also in his neatest cursive (I didn’t even know he could write in cursive!). But the best part of it all was the spelling of the message itself:
Your fotos are rety in Wallgrings.
His misspellings made me smile because it made me realize how far he has come. After only 4 ½ years in America, Hudson has gained much understanding of the English language through speech, reading, and writing. While his grammar isn’t always perfect and his spelling could use help, he has developed very much and is very capable of getting his point across even through language barriers and difficult words. This phone message, short as it was, reminded me that Hudson is determined to never give up. I just have to give him credit – I still knew exactly what the message said and saw his relentless effort towards growth at the same time. Anyways, the note brought a smile to my face and reminded me so much of something you would watch in a movie or a read in a book that I decided to share it with my blog-audience in the hopes that it might bring a smile to your face as well. :)
