Favorite Memory: This is a no-brainer. After a long day of classes and walking, a few of us ventured over to Charles Bridge – a historic beautiful bridge in the center of Prague. From there, we watched the sunset behind a gorgeous Czech landscape. The view was breathtaking! But it got better… as we watched the sunset, a group of violists serenaded the crowd on the bridge while fireworks went off in the distance. It couldn’t have been more picturesque! Prague definitely went up 10 points in my book after that.
Cultural Memory: Soccer World Cup began while we were in Prague. I didn’t realize how big of a thing soccer is outside of the U.S., but I found out… it’s HUGE. Everywhere we go in Europe, the World Cup is talked about; it’s on every tv screen, almost everyone wears a jersey for the team they support, hundreds of cars sport a country flag to show their dedication… On the first day of the World Cup, a group of us went to the center of Prague square and watched the opening game with about a billion other people (… ok maybe it was just a thousand. But it was definitely a lot!). Even though the sun was blazing and we were sandwiched between not-so-sweet-smelling people, it was awesome to be a part of the soccer scene and experience the European culture. Plus… it encouraged us to play soccer on our own!!!
To be continued...
