Heidelberg, Germany

Me, Bekah, Mari, and Alli in front of the "walking street" in Heidelberg

We took a hike to the top of a (very green) hill that gave us a gorgeous view of the city

The Heidelberg Castle in the distance!

...

Favorite Memory:
Saturday morning. 11am. Bekah, Ali, and I walk out of Calvary Chapel-Heidelberg triumphant after just finishing our 2nd test of our semester. Regardless of how we did, that test was done and we had the rest of the day free to explore Germany. We knew it was going to be a good day…

And it was.

The best part of the day was when we gathered with about 10 other friends from the trip and headed up the “Philosopher’s Trail” – a hike up one of the greenest hills in Heidelberg. The hike started out hot. And then got even hotter. (FYI: this was not the favorite memory of the trip.) By the time we were across the bridge (i.e., before we even got to the hill), all 10 of us were already sweating through our shirts. But since we were all in the same boat, it turned out to be ok. Somehow, we ended up losing half the group about halfway up the hill… but the rest of us made it to the top where we had gorgeous views of Heidelberg below, caught a few glimpses of the castle, saw a coliseum type arena built by Hitler years ago, climbed up a tower (with an even greater view of the city), took tons of pictures, talked and dreamed about the Magnum ice cream we would devour once we were done, and (of course) laughed a lot as we poked fun at each other for West vs. East Coast habits and sayings.

The night ended when a few other girls and I relaxed by a grassy area by the bridge, drank our Magnum frappucinos, and watched the city celebrate its first castle-lighting of the summer with fireworks. Favorite closing memory to a favorite momentous day!

To be continued...

Next stop: Prague, Czech Republic
